SANCTUARY

AGA KHAN MUSEUM

PROJECT STORY
The ’Sanctuary’ exhibition showcases immigrants’ experiences using rugs to share narratives demonstrating stories, histories, places, and purposes. The exhibition comprises the work of thirty-six artists from twenty-two countries who are creating rug designs. The designs were woven into the rugs by artisans in Lahore, using traditional techniques to make each piece of art. Artists of this exhibition include Ai Wei Wei.

The partition walls for the exhibition were created using lightweight aluminum structures woven in shredded recycled t-shirts to develop soft, textural panels.
